Behind The Blog Scene // Lexy Ward of The Proper Pinwheel

Well it's no secret we've been a little slack on the blog posts around here lately - my fault. Posting (and laundry) have taken a backseat while some event planning takes priority but I haven't forgotten about you my lovely readers.  In fact this little forced hiatus has me itching to get back into our regular posting schedule so as of next week we're back on track, promise.

What did get me motivated was talking to the incredibly talented, generous and oh so clever Lexy Ward from one of my all time fav DIY blogs, The Proper Pinwheel.  Lexy crafts like nobody's business, is obsessed with Diet Coke and is pretty damn hilarious - she's like the blogger you hope to be seated next to at any conference as she'll keep you laughing and smiling (not to mention impressed with her amazing entertaining DIY projects). Get ready as she's here with us today talking about The Proper Pinwheel and more..

Describe your blog in 3 words…
Quirky, Colorful, Relatable
What is your blogging manifesto?
The Proper Pinwheel is a place to inspire anyone and everyone to create and celebrate. Even the small stuff! We are happier when we are making. At least, I am! ;)
Top 3 blogging essentials?
1. Hot glue gun. I need it for almost everything!
2. Instagram. If that went away, I'd probably die.
3. Diet Coke. Because I always end up working in the middle of the night after my daughter is asleep!
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was?
When someone other than my family left a comment! Ha, no seriously though, it would have to be when Daily Candy contacted me and wanted to run a big feature of a party I styled. I was on Cloud 9 for a very long time.
My dream collaboration would be?
Oh goodness. I look up to and dream of working with so many people and brands. Martha Stewart (of course), and I would love to work with Kinfolk Mag! The aesthetic is something I'm obsessing over lately!
Right now I'm listening to?
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It's my daughter's fave show and has to be on when I'm working or I'll get nothing done! When I'm not listening to Mickey, I'm usually listening to Christmas music. Or Rufus Wainwright.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Stick with it. Success doesn't happen overnight. And it may not even happen in the first year or two. If you're doing it to make money, you'll be disappointed more often than not. Do it for you. Do it because you want to inspire others and share a piece of you with the rest of us! Also - ya gotta work hard. Really, really, really hard. Good things will come if you do. :)
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
At Disneyland ALL THE TIME.
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
A mess. I only photograph the pretty stuff! You don't see what is just outside the shot. If you did, you'd see random props everywhere from various projects, Diet Coke cans filling the trash can, and my daughter probably getting into something she shouldn't.
In 2014 I'm most excited about...
The unexpected. Just when I get comfortable, something exciting comes along and pushes me out of my comfort zone. It's all for the better, I tell you!

Event News // Etsy Craft Party

This year it's all about getting crafty.

After this past weekend's hugely successful Unleash Creative event (more to report on that later!) we're proud to continue our craft theme by hosting the Sydney Etsy Craft Party on 6 June.  As huge fans of Etsy, we're bringing this year's event to Sydney's creative hub and centre for all things cool, Work-Shop, and up with our creative pals Heart You Forever And A Day and Happy Families Design to host this year’s free event.

This time around the theme is Recapture: Bring New Meaning to Old Photographs so we'll be asking our partygoers to find a special photograph, perhaps one that carries personal memories and nostalgia and bring it with them to the gathering. Then, with needle and thread or paint and pen we'll transform that old photograph into a new handmade heirloom. More surprises on their way...stay tuned.

RSVP's are essential and can be found here.

Oh Happy Day & West Elm Blog Party

As 2013 comes to a close, I find myself getting a bit nostalgic. Do you? It's been a big one for Blog Society, filled with moments and events that I never thought would happen. It's incredible sometimes to look back and see how far you've come and to appreciate the ups, downs and memories along the way that made the adventure so unbelievable.

This blog will do just that. It will house the memories and put down on paper (so to speak) the Blog Society adventure as it unfolds. Whether you were there in person or just following along via social media, this little space will now contain some of the highlights, behind the scenes glimpses and captured moments from our events, gatherings or general blogging goodness, which if you look for it, can be found everywhere.

I thought I'd start by sharing one of my favourite moments of 2013 - our Oh Happy Day & West Elm event in Melbourne.  It was one of those pivotal, pinch me moments that you don't really appreciate until its over. I've long been a fan of Jordan Ferney from Oh Happy Day and Go Mighty so when they approached me to help with an event during her Australian visit I couldn't say no.

The idea came about from these conversations and ended up (as you'll see here) being an incredible (and colourful) night that made all the hard work worth while.  I am grateful to a team of people behind the scenes that all came together to pull off this vision and as Jordan perfectly summed up, create "the funnest party ever."  I couldn't agree more, take a look!
