interview

Rebecca Caines of The Daily Guru // Behind The Blog Scene

I am continually inspired and motivated by the women around me that i'm so lucky to call friends. These women are from all walks of life, backgrounds and levels of experience yet each one has followed their heart to carve out a life they love. I've personally been inspired by their journeys and I felt I owed it to my tribe here to start to share their stories here from time to time.

I'm proud this week to introduce you to Rebecca Caines, the founder of The Daily Guru. I have watched Rebecca pour her heart and soul into this business and the results speak for themselves, she is creating a movement for women everywhere to thrive and her new event, The Self Love Series are what Sydney's wellness community has been waiting for. Let's hear a bit about Rebecca's journey...

Describe your website/blog in 3 words...
Educational, Diverse and Inspiring (hopefully)
What is your blogging manifesto?
To shine a light on the personal growth industry and to share all the amazing gurus, tools, practices and events that this wonderful network has to offer.  So many people have absolutely no idea that life isn't meant to be as hard as there currently experience and this incredible industry offers so many amazing opportunities and insights.  I therefore want to offer a bridge between the specialists & those who are seeking personal growth, support & advice
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was....
Leaving my full time job and making this my full time career.  This was the scariest, yet most rewarding decision I've made to date with The Daily Guru
Best piece of advice I've been given?
Don't let fear be the reason to not start or try something.  Fear is just your ego and your ego has some nasty/tricky ways of making things seem impossible at times.  Nothing is impossible.  Things may not roll out exactly as you had intended- but it is always better to try, live & learn, than to just stay safe and bored.
I'm dreaming about traveling to...
Morocco. I don't know why but this place seems to be popping up for me a lot at the moment - especially when I'm working on DG creative. Whether it be searching for inspiration for future projects, creating colour palettes or mood boards- Marrakech & Morocco always seem to appear as a source of inspiration.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Dont fall victim to comparison-itus. There are so many gorgeous blogs & websites out their that we can all fall victim to comparing. And if we do fall into this trap it can become an obstacle for taking action and moving forward. Its important to remind yourself that all of this amazing site were also once new born baby blogs. Everyone has to start somewhere.  So focus on what it is you want to create and do not get distracted by what everyone else is doing.  This will make your own project more authentic in the long run also.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
Well my initial thought was to be a ski instructor as I have a huge love for being in the mountains. However I know that having my own project/business is something that is now really important to me- so perhaps running gorgeous wellness retreats in the mountains.  That would give me the best of both worlds.  Ooooow- loving that little day dream!
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
We have lots of things on the go at the moment, as we have just entered a new & exciting phase at The Daily Guru. We are now sharing and showcasing events, courses and workshops within the industry - so behind the scenes we are all like octopus'.  Juggling multiple projects all at once- whether that be; daily articles, social media campaigns, Guru features, event showcases, sponsorship collaborations, product launches, etc. Its a very exciting time at the DG and i guess this is all part and parcel of the start up phase of a new business
This year I'm most excited about...
I am most excited to share our first DG event which is called The Self Love Series.  This event has been something we've been working on for a while and its incredible to see it come to fruition.

We have five exceptional speakers & industry Gurus involved in this stunning event series and each will all be exploring the subject of self worth from a different angle.  Over the past 6months we have noticed how much our articles & content shared on either self worth, or the tools that can help us all feel a lot better about ourselves, who we are & who we want to be, always receive a crazy amount of engagement & feedback.  So we decided to create an event that was solely devoted to this important topic.  So starting from the 25th March we will begin this five week event series and our attendees can begin exploring this subject further. These events also include our gorgeous Self Love markets, tea and canapés on arrival and also a lovely networking opportunity. Its going to be a magical and unique experience and we cant wait to share it with everyone.

*I am a proud affiliate of the Self-Love Series and believe strongly in the beautiful message this series promotes. When you purchase a ticket through my link I receive a small compensation.

Andrea Ament of Legal Miss Sunshine // Behind The Blog Scene

Legal-Miss-Sunshine-Interview

I've barely had time to catch my breath since returning from Alt Summit and I promise to post my event wrap-up soon but I will say that one of the best things about making the trip was the incredible community of women I got to meet and chat to, online and at the event itself. Once such blogger was wedding stylist, Etsy shop owner, attorney, roadtripper, and crafter by the name of Andrea Ament of Legal Miss Sunshine.

Andrea is living the life of her dreams and has an amazing story to share - she also describes herself as  partial to flamingos, bookstores, Disneyland, cheeseburgers, and flea markets - a girl after my own heart. Enjoy!

Describe your blog in 3 words…
Adventure, DIY, Fun!
What is your blogging manifesto?
I hope to inspire my readers to adventure somewhere, try something, or make something new.
Top 3 blogging essentials?
1. Camera. It doesn't matter what kind. The best camera is the one in your hand.
2. Adobe Photoshop + Lightroom. In case the camera in your hand is an iPhone.
3. Editorial Calendar. To keep you on track and organized.
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was….
Ask me again at the end of the year, I'm still working on it.
Best piece of advice I've been given? Blog regularly and use an editorial calendar.
I'm dreaming about traveling to...
Italy, Morocco, Scotland, Iceland, Yosemite, New Orleans, New England, Maine, Savannah/Charleston, the Oregon coast, I could go on and on.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Always work to improve your photos.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be…
At Disneyland. Everyday. No, seriously, I can tell you what I still would NOT be doing: Lawyering. Nope, I don't want to wear a suit or be in court. No, thank you!
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like…
An earthquake just hit Los Angeles! Currently I have Astroturf and confetti all over my office floor, the insides of my linen closet are in my bedroom, the kitchen is just a mess from a recipe shoot, and the garage is a death trap. Seriously, I won't let my husband go into the garage right now for fear he will get hurt.
This year I'm most excited about…
Accomplishing my goals: growing my blog and Etsy shops and launching my event planning and styling company, The Party Task Force. Lots of awesomeness to come this year and I'm super excited for all of it!

Megan Flynn Peterson of Freckled Italian // Behind The Blog Scene

freckled-italian-interview

I'm a sucker for a good food blog. My love probably stems from the fact I have little talent in the kitchen and my food photography leaves much to be desired but I have a huge amount of respect and love for my fellow bloggers that conquer the foodie world with ease.  One of those beautiful souls is Megan Flynn Peterson, a blogger living in Charlotte, North Carolina and the writer behind Freckled Italian (my new fav food read).

I was lucky enough to meet and chat with Megan while at Alt Summit recently and just had to find out more about how she took on full-time blogging in 2013  and how she balances food, friendship, family, and marriage on her blog. Join me in saying hello and just a hint of warning, looking at her blog my instil strong hunger pangs...

Describe your blog in 3 words
Food, love, stories.
What is your blogging manifesto?
Sharing the ins and outs of life and connecting with people all over the world on a personal level.
Top 3 blogging essentials?
My planner, my camera, and a good cup of coffee!
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was....
Definitely making the leap from blogging as a hobby to blogging as a career. I quit my day job in August of 2013 and sometimes it still doesn't feel real; that this is my job and I get to do it every day for a living.
Best piece of advice I've been given?
Don't worry so much about where you're going to end up. Trust the journey and just work hard every day.
I'm dreaming about traveling to..
Ireland, Norway, and Argentina
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Be yourself. Write about the things you love and take the time to be genuine and authentic. It can be a challenge, but it is so worth it.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
Working in publishing or back in school, studying to be a librarian.
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
Organized chaos. Working at home is so fun sometimes but I have the worst time staying organized. I can usually see the big picture, but I tend to get a little lost in the details from time to time.
This year I'm most excited about...
Taking a step back and adopting a "less is more," or "quality over quantity" approach to blogging (and my life in general).

Behind The Blog Scene // Jess of From Rain To Shine

From-Rain-To-Shine

Online connection is a power thing and I think any blogger who has fostered true friendships both online and off can attest to that power. Despite living thousands of miles away and never having met, there are bloggers I immediately connect with and Jess from Rain To Shine is one of them. Perhaps it's because I used to live in LA and when I read Jess's posts I get SO nostalgic for the West Coast or maybe it's because I want to be a graphic designer in my next lifetime, but whatever it is she's great and I couldn't wait to introduce her here as I know you'll love her too!

Describe your blog in 3 words…
Positivity, Parties, Pantone
What is your blogging manifesto?
Discovering positivity through pen, lens + pixel.
Top 3 blogging essentials?
My Mac Book, the Adobe Creative Suite, an open + inquisitive mind.
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was....
Getting to speak at Alt Summit on Graphic Design for bloggers was pretty awesome.
My dream collaboration would be?
Kate Spade...talk about a dream collab! Their designs are classic, colorful + happy. Their social media is engaging and innovative, and I'm totally loving Anna Kendrick as their holiday muse.
Right now I'm listening to...
Lorde, especially Flicker (Kanye West rework), Sam Hunt + Banks. I normally listen to hip-hop + rap, but lately, I've been loving slower, more alternative sounds.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
If you want something, go for it. Don't be afraid to start, jump in head first and get to work. No one else will do it for you, trust in your abilities, and you will be amazed at what you can do.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
I actually work full-time as a graphic designer, between my job, and my freelance design clients. My blog is a design project for me to share work, inspiration, and connect with creatives. If I wasn't working in the graphic design/blogging world, I would L-O-V-E to be a Seattle Seahawks cheerleader (Seagal). If only I could dance....
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
Me, my laptop, my couch or coffee shop + sketchbook. Also, Spotify (or Netflix) on in the background, Google Calendar and Todoist. I like to try and keep my work nice + organized!
This year I'm most excited about...
Creating the design studio associated with my blog. After working full-time as a graphic designer,  I decided to transition into freelance, working more with my amazing clients. 2015 will be a big change, but I couldn't be more excited to start my own business, From Rain to Shine Design.

Behind The Blog Scene // Bethany Herwegh of The Glamorous Housewife

rancho-las-palmas-6.jpg

There is a theme of honesty that I've seen popping up in the blogosphere, a trend that is close to my heart and that I think is long overdue. Do you see it? People everywhere are raising their hands, expressing vulnerability and willing to happily talk about the ups and downs of blogging. That is what struck me about Bethany and her blog, The Glamorous Housewife. She is candid, funny and raw - three qualities I love in a blogger and I was so happy to get a chance to chat with her and talk blogger to blogger about what motivates her to keep writing...

Describe your blog in 3 words…
Inspiration for living
What is your blogging manifesto?
I want to teach women how to be creative and motivated in their daily lives as proud homemakers by using the best tips and tricks of the past to inspire our futures.
Top 3 blogging essentials?
A hot cup of tea, tenacity, passion for teaching others.
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was....
The first non family member comment I ever got. I was shocked and amazed that somebody I had never met would be interested in something I had to say. To this day I remember her "name" which was LePetiteMort. Back in the early days we didn't use our real names when blogging, hence why I am The Glamorous Housewife and she went by a different pen name. The minute I realized there were others in the world who were like me and wanted to learn what I had to teach, I was hooked and I never looked back. It was like I was born to blog.
My dream collaboration would be?
Dita Von Teese. She is the original glamorous housewife.
Right now I'm listening to...
The beauty of silence. It is 6:07am and the kids are all still asleep. In about 30 minutes the house will be cacophonous with the  noise of children getting ready for school, so I enjoy the silence while I can. As for the music I listen to, my tastes are very eclectic. I prefer Ella Fitzgerald when cooking and have been known to have old skool hip hop Fridays from time to time.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes a lot of time before you start to see true results. But the good news is the people you will virtually meet will be some of the most amazing and creative people ever and you will be thrilled to be able to call them friends.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
Really, really bored. I honestly can't think of what I would rather be doing with my life. I imagine I would be doing all the same day to day things, I just wouldn't be writing about it.
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
Fun! I hired an assistant about three months ago and we laugh and talk and work all day. If it isn't exciting, why bother doing it?
This year I'm most excited about...
So many big things for 2015! I am currently writing a book which I hope will get picked up by a publisher. If not I will be self publishing it so either way, there should be a book sometime next year. It is 100% new content and it will be a detailed guide to becoming a glamorous housewife. I am also working on a blog revamp which should be unveiled in early January. It will be much easier to read and user friendly. In addition to the new blog revamp and book, I will be starting my new online classes! I have written a comprehensive course on taking your wardrobe from frump to fabulous! I am so excited to finally be able to teach my beloved readers how to fall in love with their closet using tips and tricks from the wisdom of the divas of the past which seems to have been lost in modern times.
