The Marketing Mistake Every New Business Owner Makes

Digital-Bravery-Ecourse

Somehow we all blinked and it's almost the end of October. How that actually happened is beyond me but either way the end of 2016 is looming. It's therefore time for the guilt, shame and panic to set in as we realise all those goals we never did get around to accomplishing (I'm looking at you - learning French, mastering photography or journaling daily).

It's the same for those lofty business goals we proudly boasted about. Yet here's the thing that I've found to be the #1 mistake that new business owners make, again and again. They get caught up in the excitement, in the adrenaline and they dive straight in. They're building websites, designing business cards, agonising over colour palettes, Instagram names and downloading every social media app under the sun.

On the surface this sounds great right? Except on major things is missing:

A plan.

We are so busy with tactics that when we launch our new business we skip the most important step of creating a solid marketing strategy that will drive and guide every decision we make moving forward.

Digital Bravery Ecourse

And that is why I'm so excited to relaunch my flagship ecourse, Digital Bravery this week to give new business owners a chance to get their marketing game back on track (and yes this can be done before the end of the year).

It's not too late to learn new skills, get armed with all my actual templates and spreadsheets, and start 2017 marketing your business in a way this is sustainable - and gets results. If you're guilty of not meeting your January resolutions and want to start next year with a fresh clean marketing slate then check out all the details here and know that we have a pretty sweet Early Bird rate running until this Sunday!

Because the end of the year simply signals a new beginning and how you start next year is completely up to you. My advice? Don't make the same marketing mistake twice.

Have questions? Join me for a LIVE workshop Sunday 23 October at 7:30pm AEST and I'll be answering your all your additional questions and getting to share a bit more about me and my journey! Sign up here.

The Deadly Combination of Digital Marketing & Fear

I love to help business fall in love with marketing.

That's what I do, that's what i'm passionate about and its what drives me.  When I'm not out collaborating, working on the blog, creating events or coaching my clients - I'm working to build products, ecourses and offerings that help you kick ass with your marketing.

My flagship ecourse, Digital Bravery is live now (with a pretty sweet Early Bird rate running until this Sunday!) and every time I launch I notice that when #girlbosses look at how to better understand - and thrive - in the digital marketing landscape they are crippled by fear. Big, ugly fear.

It's something about mentioning the terms like email marketing, Instagram, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, strategy - that send people into a tailspin.  Everyone knows they should be clear and confident in these areas but they are afraid - of not being able to get it, action it, be good at it, find the time for it - the list goes on.

Yet, the truth is that each one of us needs fear. It’s a survival instinct put in place to protect us but what about when that protection also keeps us from growing, evolving and following our dreams?  I’m the first one to raise my hand and admit that fear has held me back, allowed self-doubt to creep into my mind, made me care far too much what others thought of me and impacted my ability to grow. But then things slowly began to change and for me personally that pivotal moment came when I realised all of the lost opportunities in front of me that I could directly attribute to fear. I could literally begin to count as opportunities slipped away because I said 'no' out of fear. So I took a leap of faith. I started to say yes to things that scared me and made a decision I that I didn’t want to watch from the sidelines any more. Do you?

Raise your hand if you’ve had list of marketing 'shoulds' on your growing do list but never seem to action them? Start a newsletter, create a better opt-in, redesign your website, create a hashtag strategy, write out a marketing plan - I KNOW you have every intention of doing those things but you don't.

That's where I come in. That's where Digital Bravery comes in.

If you really want to see action and be given my practical marketing tools (yes the very ones I use in my own business) then Digital Bravery could be just want you need...and I'll be there to support, guide and cheer you along the way.

Friday Files

For anyone that has ever launched an ecourse or product you understand the madness that exists the week before you hit 'go'. Well that has been my life this week. A flurry of last minute interviews, podcasts, emails with my web developer, late nights writing emails, gut checks with my mastermind group and the emotional butterflies that come with anything tied to vulnerability.

This Monday I open the doors to our 5th round of Digital Bravery and more than ever I'm excited to welcome our next class into the family of hundreds of past students that have graduated my course. I pour all my marketing know-how and guidance into this course and I can't wait for you guys to join me.

If launch chaos wasn't enough I decided to throw an exciting new job into the mix that I'll be sure to tell you about next week. For now I'm wrapping up some final to-do list items and then hitting the road for a weekend camping trip down the coast and some much needed time away from the screen (for now) - as it's pretty much the calm before the storm until next week hits. Bring it on! Enjoy the link love....x Jaclyn

After a blissful Easter weekend I came back to Sydney rested, refreshed and ready to hit the ground running. Armed with extra caffeine, this week has been EPIC - I've been putting in the long hours in prep for our Digital Bravery launch on 11 April, but I seem to thrive as I get into launch mode. I absolutely love this product and sharing it with the world is one of my favourite things to do as a business owners. It's when action and accountability collide and I get to practice what I preach.

So I've been writing emails, blog posts, recording podcasts, securing interviews and working like a boss. There have been some pretty big shifts in my professional life too which I'll be sharing soon - jumping fearlessly out of my comfort zone in brave pursuit of new adventures.

So this weekend I wish I could say I have a lot of fun things lined up but the truth is I'll be working and powering through that to-do list into the wee hours (perhaps with a wine in hand and some 'House of Cards' on in the background) but after such a restful break I'm ready to dive back in. Here's hoping your weekend is a bit more exciting :)  Sharing my fav link love below before signing off. x Jaclyn

It’s been a BIG week – the kind of week you look back on and go, ‘did that really happen?’  I’m still reeling from the excitement of buying our first home, an adorable unit in Sydney that will become the new Blog Society HQ and I can’t wait to start decorating once we move in, until that happens I’ll be spending an unhealthy amount of time on Pinterest.

We also announced our very first winners of the Digital Bravery Scholarship here and I was so grateful for the flood of heartfelt applications – massive thanks to everyone that applied, the decisions was so, so difficult to make. The announcement came on the heels of news that doors have opened for our next round of our 6 week digital marketing & social media e-course for creative, Digital Bravery.  This is perfect timing for everyone looking for a last minute kick start before the holidays and so that you can rest up over Christmas and hit the ground running next year. The course officially kicks off on 19 October however enrolment is on now with a pretty sweet Early Bird deal ending on Sunday, then the price goes up.

And finally I’m still easing back into the blogging world after having slowed things down over August and truth be told I’m rather enjoying this slower pace.  With the change in seasons I’m beginning to feel a shift in energy so am going to sit back a bit longer and see how things go – in the meantime this weekend is going to be full of house packing and de-cluttering, I’m strangely looking forward to it. Here’s some link love to keep you inspired and I’ll see you next week! X Jac
