Unleash Creative // Sydney

From the first launch of Blog Society, a core part of our mission when hosting events has always been to not only to enrich and educate bloggers but to nourish the inner creative in all of us. Taking time to craft, play and create often gets pushed down the priority list but every time I've hosted an event based solely around DIY or craft, the reaction is nothing less than amazing. Everyone walks away relaxed, happy and the mood feels lighter than when they entered.

So take that feeling and multiply it by ten and that's the vibe that happened at our most recent Unleash Creative Sydney event. I was grateful to team up with Magdalena Franco (who founded Unleash Creative) and our four craft mentors: Kirbee Lawler of Kirbeeart, Rin of Papered Thoughts, Alex Falkiner of Alfalky and Madeleine of Made by Mosey.

There was confetti, a photo booth, copious amounts of sugar, snacks and splashes of colour - it was everything you'd expect from a crafternoon and I absolutely can't wait to do it again. If you missed this event, I hope you can join us next time...

Event News // Etsy Craft Party

This year it's all about getting crafty.

After this past weekend's hugely successful Unleash Creative event (more to report on that later!) we're proud to continue our craft theme by hosting the Sydney Etsy Craft Party on 6 June.  As huge fans of Etsy, we're bringing this year's event to Sydney's creative hub and centre for all things cool, Work-Shop, and up with our creative pals Heart You Forever And A Day and Happy Families Design to host this year’s free event.

This time around the theme is Recapture: Bring New Meaning to Old Photographs so we'll be asking our partygoers to find a special photograph, perhaps one that carries personal memories and nostalgia and bring it with them to the gathering. Then, with needle and thread or paint and pen we'll transform that old photograph into a new handmade heirloom. More surprises on their way...stay tuned.

RSVP's are essential and can be found here.

I love a good excuse to get crafty.

Sometimes when we spend so much time connected to our computers or various devices we forget the clarity and relaxation that can be found simply by sitting down and working with our hands. It's an excuse to play, which is why I'm so excited to be teaming up with Unleash Creative to bring you an amazing creative event to get you thinking outside the square, set your creative juices flowing, push the boundaries and explore your inner-creativeness.

Held over the course of a full day on 4 May with some pretty kick ass creative mentors on board to lead a variety of workshops this is one event you won't want to miss. It's the first time I've hosted something like this here in Sydney so I'm looking forward to seeing some new faces and thought it was fun to add something different to the mix. I couldn't wait to share it with you today - it might just make your Monday a bit more colourful!

Behind The Blog Scene // Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Day

There is nothing more rewarding than admiring and respecting someone from afar, only to realise that they are truly that genuine, clever and lovely in person. That was my experience when I was lucky enough to meet and work with Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Day last year in Melbourne.

Oh Happy Day is the ultimate craft playground, a visual carousel of inspiring eye candy that continues to produce what I consider to be some of the best original content in the blogosphere. Jordan gets it. She's smart, talented and I have admired her blog and watched it grow long before I moved to Australia.  One of the things I really love about Jordan is that despite her success she still maintains such a personal, down to earth tone on her blog and its that familiarity and accessibility that immediately draws you in.  So as you can see I'm a huge fan. HUGE.  Getting to work with her last year was an incredible experience and both her and her husband are just as cool, fun, cute and clever in person. If you missed it, check out photos here, it really was an awesome night.

So it therefore shouldn't come as any surprise that I'm interviewing the very talented, very crafty Jordan on this week's Behind the Blog Scene series.  Read on below for an interview that promises to make you smile (I mean how can not fall in love with any blogger who references Beyonce when describing what happens behind the scenes of her blog??) And finally a huge shout out to Jordan for sharing her thoughts below...enjoy.

Describe your blog in 3 words…
Happy, Fun, Colorful
What is your blogging manifesto?
Make People Happy
Top 3 blogging essentials?
Macbook, Crepe Paper, Cake. I can't live without my computer, Crepe Paper is my material of choice to make projects with and I love cake. Any excuse to have a cake in the studio and I take it.
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was....?
I don't have one big milestone but 2011 was a great year for me. I really focused on making content and my site grew a lot. It's sort of when everything "clicked."
My dream collaboration would be?
I would love to do a line of party supplies. I've even designed them already!!!
Right now I'm listening to...
Songza. It's my favorite music app because the playlists are chosen by humans not an algorithm. My favorite playlist while I make things is "Sunshine Indie."  Also we play lots of Beyonce.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Be consistent, invest in your own site, and create original content.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
Making products or eating donuts.
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
A Beyonce video
In 2014 I'm most excited about...
I'm working on a few secret projects that I have to keep mum (I'm the worst at keeping my own secrets.) I also just bought a house after living in tiny San Francisco apartments for 10 years. I'm excited to decorate it.
