books for bloggers

Link Love // The Friday Files

Oh Friday, this week I am welcoming you with open arms!

I’ve had my planning hat on this week, brainstorming, drafting and strategizing about an event that I’ve been dreaming about bringing to Australia since Blog Society first bloomed and I am looking to plant that seed later this year. I’ve been feeling a bit flat about some of the blogging events I’ve seen lately, packed with value yes but missing that spark or that certain something to ignite that creative spirit inside all of us. So this event will be different, more colourful, soulful and altogether collaborative. Watch this space as I’d love your support in bringing this dream to life. In other news, this weekend we’re celebrating my better half’s birthday with a stay-cation and well deserved cocktail – I’ll be powering down and enjoying the moment, I hope you’ll do the same. Some weekend reads to inspire….

  • Dealing with uncertainty – a must read for creatives
  • Glamping in the Mornington here I come!
  • A huge admiration for this pioneering blogger – her book is on my wish list.
  • A Palm Springs wedding is sounding better and better
  • My new favourite website for women in business
  • Any want to take a trip to Brooklyn with me?

Blog Biz // 4 Books Every Blogger Should Read

I spend a lot of time on social media but I've always been a book nerd. Lately I've been trying to ween myself off Pinterest and get back into the good old habit of pouring through pages, of getting lost in stories that inspire and uplift. I swear there is nothing better than getting into a good book and not being able to put it down - don't you agree?

This month I challenge you to (try) and limit your social media intake and instead invest that time in some good old fashion reading. Pick up a book that moves you, that you can't wait to pass along to a friend, that you simply can't stop talking about (kind of like how you felt after reading Gone Girl, that feeling). If you know exactly what I'm talking about then I encourage you to share your top picks below because I LOVE adding to my ever growing 'must read' list.

Today I'm sharing 4 books every blogger should read. Two I've read, one I've just started and one has just arrived at my doorstep.  All four are different but equally interesting, unique and memorable.  Have you read these books? I'd love to know your thoughts below...

  1. Blog Inc. by Joy Cho
The ultimate guide to blogging by one of blogging's superstars. Words can't express how much I LOVE Joy or this book. It's the book every blogger must have on their book shelf. It's that simple.
  2. Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
This hotly debated book is either loved or hated by everyone I've spoken to. For me I found it provoked so much thought into my own career progression not only in the marketing field but as a blogger.  You might not agree with everything Sheryl says but you can't help but respect her journey.
  3. Daring Greatly by Dr. Brene Brown.
Only a few pages in and I'm hooked.  Confronting, exhilarating and just what I need to face some of my own fears this book is helping me to look in the mirror and pave my own imperfect path.
  4. #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso
Just delivered into my hot little hands this book is the one everyone is talking about in the blogosphere and I'm almost tempted to start reading straight away. I've only heard good things from sources I trust so I'm taking a risk and adding it to my list blindly - let me know if you agree or not?
