This past week I was lucky enough to attend ADMA's Global Marketing Forum and hear from some of the top marketers in the world about the changing digital landscape. I listened to speaker after speaker talk about the importance of big data, the internet of things and how customer insight is changing the way brands are communicating with their customers. But despite all the fascinating statistics (and yes they were quite incredible - if you aren't looking closely at your Google Analytics you should change this immediately) however the largest theme that stood out and really clutched my heart was the shift in focus and continued importance on the customer experience - put simply the need to connect with our communities on a human level.
At a brand level this concept is (strangely enough) a new area of thought however for bloggers and those of us with strong ties to our own community the very ethos of our existence is connection. It's our foundation, our reason for being and our most honest form of interaction. We speak, act and think on a human to human level because we understand our community because we ARE our community.
My thoughts were drawn to our recent launch of #blogtribe and the outpouring of emotion that happens each week as bloggers from around the world share and support one another. That emotional connection or ability to make someone feel something powerful is why we blog and why I have such deep rooted love for each post that has been shared. It really struck me how such a small act can have profound impact on a community so I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone that has been involved and I encourage you to continue to push out those positive messages of support. Some brands may be just waking up to immense power of emotional connection but its something bloggers have long understood - and never underestimate the power of our community.
