Behind The Blog Scene // Monica Lee of Smart Creative Women

You can't help but fall in love with someone who from the first word they utter, exudes positive energy. This, in a nutshell, is how you feel after speaking to Monica Lee of Smart Creative Women.  Monica's blog has long been a go to resource of mine and I find her videos to be some of the best in the blogosphere for women in business or bloggers looking to learn from other creative women. It's a site to bookmark and visit again and again but first let's hear from Monica in her own words about what makes Smart Creative Women so special....

Describe your blog in 3 words…
Grow, Inspire, Conversation. Only 3?! Oh my, anyone that knows me, knows limiting my "words" is an awfully hard thing to do!
What is your blogging manifesto?
"I promise it will be fun!" No, actually it is a place where creative women come together, share their stories and have each others back. I wanted a place for women to get to know each other and realize that are not on their journey alone!
My biggest blogging moment/milestone was....
Getting asked to speak places. I think that if my enthusiasm for women's success spills out beyond the blog, then I have done a good thing!
My dream collaboration would be?
This is two-fold, my first dream collaboration would be with a sponsor that would have the same vision for women's success as I do and that they would come on board and sponsor the show for the long term. A dream collaboration for me artistically (I do have a background as a professional artist by the way!) would be with a fun brand designing a line of accessories with them (I have a not-so-secret passion for scarves, bags and shoes!)
Right now I am listening to....
Honestly? The silence! I do a lot of technical work and writing and I maintain my focus in the silence. I used to think I could listen and work, but I have come to terms with the fact that it slows me down.
Best piece of advice to a newbie blogger?
Be original!! I can't say this enough! Don't show up with posts and a brand that looks like everyone else, no matter how popular it all may be. I would hate to see us become too homogeneous and that is not what great creativity is all about. I feel so strongly that I built an entire course around that theme.
If I wasn't blogging I'd be...
Illustrating like a maniac, which is what I was doing before I began Smart Creative Women. I am just easing it back into my life in the form of a shop, this time I want to create without the mania, haha!
Behind the scenes of my blog looks like...
Oh dear, controlled chaos for sure! I am still managing my business with too many "mental" lists and goals. Up until recently the mental management system was working for me, but now I feel emails and lists and deadlines slipping through my fingers. Virgo's don't like that. Systems! I need tighter systems in place so I don't accidentally put the peanut butter in the freezer!
In 2014 I'm most excited about...
Oh a lot of things! I feel like the guests that are coming on board really understand how wonderful the audience is and how supportive and engaged they are. That means they are really bringing enthusiasm and great tips to the table. I am also really excited to have found my creative, artistic voice again and that I am carving out time to express myself as a designer and artist. I am also thrilled to have the Smart Creative Style course up and running smoothly, seeing other women find their unique creative styles is amazing and it blesses me every time the course runs!!
